About CYB

Caution Your Blast Ltd (CYB) is a collection of researchers, designers, software engineers, and transformation managers who are committed to using digital as a force for good. We work with our clients to solve complex problems and build digital services that make people’s lives easier and have a positive impact on society and the planet.

We’re based in London, but you don’t have to be. Around 30% of our team lives somewhere else in the UK (from Glasgow to Bristol) - travelling a few days each month to our London office.

We’re a people-centric digital practice - our employees are at the heart of company decision-making and we seek to continually improve our skills and ways of working to make CYB a place we can all be proud of. No need to take our word for it, though; you can have a look at our staff testimonials to get a better feel for life at CYB.

About the Full Stack Software Engineer role

This is a hands-on full stack role where you will be responsible for building high quality software solutions for our clients as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. Full stack means full stack from the front-end, back-end through to infrastructure. We appreciate not everyone will have experience in all layers of the stack but if this sounds exciting and you’re willing to learn new skills, this role could be for you.

As a member of the engineering profession within CYB, you will collaborate with your colleagues, share learning, and explore ideas in order to develop individually and as a team to advance our practises. We hold regular roundtables and engineering afternoons that allow us to get together to discuss ideas and try out new tech.

About the skills and mindset the Full Stack Software Engineer will need to thrive

We’re looking for skilled practitioners and it would help if you’ve had relevant work experience such as working with clients and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, but more specifically someone who has experience with:

  • Modern FE Framework (e.g. React, Vue.js, Svelte)

  • NodeJS

  • Typescript

  • Relational databases

  • Any unit testing framework (e.g. mocha/jest/lab/junit/etc.)

  • CI/CD (e.g. CircleCI/travis/jenkins/etc.)

Our stack also includes the following (although experience with these is not required):

  • AWS

  • Kubernetes

  • Docker

  • Development with large language models is a bonus

In addition to the above technical skills, we’d love to work with somebody who is able to:

  • rapidly build high-quality, user-centric applications that are fully test-driven

  • confidently explain technical concepts and solutions to non-technical people and a range of stakeholders

  • perform code reviews for peers and openly share knowledge and ideas

  • experiment with new methods and technologies in a focussed way so that we can always keep one eye on improving the experience of our team and our users

  • support and collaborate with more junior developers

A diverse culture is really important to us, so if you don’t feel the above, or what follows here, quite describes you but you feel like you could add value and that you enjoy learning, creating and collaborating, then please consider getting in touch. We don’t see ourselves as having a fixed culture but that it’s fluid and changes with everyone who joins, and changes again if someone leaves us. Also, feel free to challenge us - what are we missing and what should we be looking for instead?

You as a person

CYB are passionate about making the most of digital. We want to work with people who share this passion and want to deliver exceptional user experiences. This means we’re looking for a:

  • strategic thinker continuously looking for ways to expand the impact of their work

  • critical thinker always looking for ways to improve processes, techniques and ways of working

  • creative thinker willing to try things out and learn from failure

  • problem solver who falls in love with problems, not their solutions

  • self-starter who can build momentum and is happy taking the initiative

  • clear communicator able to build trusting relationships and guide constructive conversations

  • a curious self-learner, always seeking to upskill to hone their profession to be the best practitioner they can be

  • a natural collaborator with individuals and teams to develop exceptional products and experiences that are tailored for their intended audience
