Senior Developer (Give A Little)

Salary £64,000 - £80,000

About CYB

Caution Your Blast (CYB) is a collection of designers, researchers, and software engineers committed to using digital as a force for good. We love working together to solve complex problems and improve people’s lives - whether they be the citizens using services or the teams who build and operate them.

We’re a people-centric digital practice - our employees are at the heart of company decision-making and we seek to continually improve our processes and culture to make CYB a place we can all be proud of.

No need to take our word for it, though; you can have a look at our staff testimonials to get a better feel for life at CYB.

About the Senior Developer (Give A Little) role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Developer to join our engineering profession, and our Give A Little platform team. You will be responsible for the iterative frontend and backend development of Give A Little, our charitable point of donation service, and products therein. You will collaborate with your colleagues in the engineering profession to advance our practices.

This innovative, user-led digital solution is rapidly accelerating in use across the charity sector and we have many opportunities to lead the sector globally as a result. It relies on the ability to build effective and efficient products that make the most of appropriate technologies to help and delight users to get their tasks done. We want clients and users to experience the best of what’s possible using today’s tech - so as well as having the technical aptitude, we’re looking for a hard worker, who enjoys being part of a team.

You’ll use your software engineering skills to help us deliver the go-to solution for charities looking for an accessible, reliable, and innovative point of donation platform whilst drawing on the expertise of your colleagues across research, design, and product, to create features and deliver experiences that delight users and raise the bar in the market.

This Senior Developer will report directly to Max Stewart, CYB’s Software Engineering Director.

About the skills and mindset the Senior Developer (Give A Little) will need to thrive

Skills and experience

We’re looking for skilled practitioners with experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, specifically someone who has experience with:

  • Modern FE Framework (e.g. React, Vue.js, we use Svelte)

  • NodeJS

  • Typescript

  • Any unit testing framework (mocha/jest/lab/junit/etc.)

  • CI/CD (CircleCI/travis/jenkins/etc.)

Our stack also includes the following (although experience with these is not required):

  • Java

  • Relational databases (MySQL)

  • AWS

  • Kubernetes

  • Docker

  • iOS (Swift)

  • Android (Kotlin)

In addition to the above technical skills, we'd love to work with somebody who can:

  • rapidly build high-quality, user-centric applications that are fully test-driven

  • collaborate with teams to develop exceptional products and experiences that are tailored for their intended audience

  • confidently explain technical concepts and solutions to non-technical people and a range of stakeholders

  • deliver using the fundamentals of agile methodologies whilst knowing when to flex the approach in order to improve ways of working

  • experiment with new methods and technologies in a focussed way so that we can always keep one eye on improving the experience of our team and our users

Culture is really important to us, so if you enjoy learning, creating and being part of a proactive member of a welcoming team, then we can be flexible on the above. Also, feel free to challenge us - what are we missing and what should we be using instead?

You as a person

CYB are passionate about making the most of digital. We want to work with people who share this passion and want to deliver exceptional user experiences. This means we’re looking for a:

  • strategic thinker continuously looking for ways to expand the impact of their work

  • critical thinker always looking for ways to improve processes, techniques and ways of working

  • creative thinker willing to try things out and learn from failure

  • problem solver who falls in love with problems, not their solutions

  • self-starter who can build momentum and is happy taking the initiative

  • clear communicator able to build trusting relationships and guide constructive conversations
